Susan Baka is President of Bay Communications & Marketing Inc., a boutique marketing and communications firm with Canadian and global clients. As a communications specialist and writer with over 20 years’ experience, Susan has directed the launch of over 50 business publications, services, websites and events in the fields of small business, women’s entrepreneurship, international trade, human resources, workplace health and safety, public policy, real estate, law, sports, and tourism.

Prior to starting Bay, she spent 12 years with Southam, one of Canada’s largest communications companies, as an editor, publisher, and general manager of its business information services division.

Susan is active in business associations, is a founder and Vice President, International, of the Organization of Women in International Trade (Toronto Chapter), serves as Vice President, Communications, on the international Board, and is on the Board of the Step Ahead Women’s Mentoring Program. She serves as editor of their newsletters, has written their websites and organized trade missions. An advocate for women entrepreneurs and exporters, Susan was appointed a member of the Minister of International Trade’s Small and Medium Enterprise Advisory Board in 2008. She won The International Alliance for Women (TIAW) World of Difference 100 Award (Entrepreneurship category) 2009, which honours 100 women worldwide for contributing to women’s economic empowerment, and was an Honoree at the Global EXEC Women’s International Women of Influence Awards, 2009. As an authority on women’s entrepreneurship and small business, Susan writes and speaks on these topics nationally and internationally. Her firm is one of the first to be certified by WEConnect Canada, a new, corporate-led organization that is opening doors to global supply chains for women business owners and helping companies and governments tap into innovative vendors.
